Get to know your detector, to find hammered you need to use as little discrimination as possible.
Keep a test coin, bury it in the field/s you are working on , try the detector over it see what the signal is like, adjust your detector to suit.
Are you finding little bits of lead, if you are then this is a good indication that hammered may be on the site.
Any old footpaths on the field, work in that area. If you are finding georgian coins , persevere there will be hammered around.
More tips?

there may be no hammered in one filed but a few in another .
you may find some land has only a small amount of soil due to chalkbed there may be shale find must be within reach then so work every inch of those fields carefully.
settled plough in a known area of early med right thru til modern times will produce some good amounts so try and they will come .nearly any machine will find them so don't worry if you can find thin pewter buttons and brass/copper ones you are able to find good hammered also you must dig any signal that ispossitive
